New Work

Check out the latest work produced by the Kaneen Communications team.

Fire Station 8 & 9 Grand Openings

Two grand opening events that brought together happy neighbors, fire crews, elected officials, city staff, TPD leadership, project managers, and contractors to celebrate. Kaneen coordinated logistics, designed eblast invites, tracked RSVPs, set up tours and exhibits, generated talking points and agendas, organized event flow, drafted media advisory, and worked with videographers and photographers. What a blast!

Interactive Map Offers Latest Info

When construction of a new 7-mile dual force main sewer project was going to impact property owners and Loop travelers, Kaneen stepped in with a solution: create an interactive project map. Click to highlight a map segment and receive an update on construction dates and closures. Info is easy to access -- especially if you’re packing a smart phone on your bike ride or walk on the nearby Loop.  Route signs with QR codes link to the interactive map. Test out the interactive map here.

Making Tucson’s Economic Development Strategy Stand Out

The City of Tucson Department of Economic Initiatives selected Kaneen to deliver a modern and hyper-local Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) plan for the public. Kaneen reorganized content, added infographics and timelines, interviewed staff, and collaborated with local photographers to distill 300+ of research into an eye-catching and readable online CEDS.

Re-imagining Tucson’s Central Park

Collaborating with Tucson Parks & Recreation Department and design firm Sasaki, Kaneen led local engagement to develop a master plan for Tucson’s Reid Park. Over 8 months, there were more than 6,000 points of engagement: 6 community-wide pop-up events, 1 open house, and 3 community surveys with a combined response of 6,000+. The final park master plan design embraces an innovative and visionary approach to recreation, connection, inclusiveness, nature, and relaxation.

Digital Water Matters is a Winner

A small team including a Tucson Water project manager and Kaneen’s strategist and writer, graphic designer, and editor put together digital Water Matters, a monthly eblast that reaches 177,000 subscribers. Digital WM boasts an average unique open rate of 37%, since launch featuring over 23 short videos and animations, a water theme playlist, 3 flash polls, and 6 conservation contests and giveaways. PRSA Southern Arizona recently awarded Water Matters its 2022 Best in Show.

Bundle Up & Let’s Ice Skate

An ice-skating rink in the heart of Tucson is a great way to celebrate the holiday season in the desert! This year Kaneen’s graphic designer created a Sonoran style gingerbread house theme to wrap containers that served as the rental site and storage. Candy and gingerbread men beckoned skaters on the east side of the site.

Animations That Explain

Kaneen uses animations with video to explain complex info or connections. For example, animations to show how reclaimed water is recharged into the aquifer, an organization chart of the staff and nonprofit providers supporting domestic violence court, and how to install a backflow system with rainwater or graywater system.

The Desert Leaf Extends Nonprofit’s Reach

Kaneen brought together 501(c)(3) Arizona Land and Water Trust and local publication the Desert Leaf for a win-win. Each month, a Kaneen representative researched, wrote, edited, and sourced images based on a Trust virtual happy hour speaker, customizing an intriguing column for the Desert Leaf -- desert rivers, wildcats, Madera Canyon, prong antelopes, young farmers, light pollution, wildlife corridors, bats, and animal mates for life.

Making Zoning Changes Interesting

Kaneen worked with the Town of Sahuarita Planning Department team to develop a multi-prong approach to gathering input about zoning code amendments: postcard, fact sheet, Sahuarita Sun print and online ads, and website updates. We coordinated in-person and virtual open houses, plus supported social media outreach for pop-ups in the park.
