City of Tucson

Kaneen is proud of our 20+ combined years of working with City of Tucson’s elected officials and aides, City Managers, executive leadership, department representatives, PIOs, project teams, and constituents. Strong relationships, ability to adapt, and strategic planning has helped the firm and the City navigate Covid and its reverberations. Here are some of the interesting projects from the last three years.

New Mark for City of Tucson

Tucson is a growing, vibrant city – and needed a modern mark that reflected that energy! Using a five-step creative process, Kaneen worked with key City staff to create a new digital-friendly mark. This ADA-compliant mark package comes with a brand guide and templates for websites, FB, Instagram, videos, memos, media releases, virtual backgrounds, & more.

Creating MaskUp Tucson

Early in the pandemic, the City’s elected leaders, with support of the City Manager and staff, adopted a science-based mask up health and safety policy. We developed an integrated campaign including a mask up mark and color palette, radio spots, print ads, short videos, digital ads, bus wraps, transit ads, events, and collateral. Kaneen’s media specialist – we have one – placed media and added value spots in less than 10 days.

Making Tucson’s Economic Development Strategy Stand Out

The City of Tucson Department of Economic Initiatives selected Kaneen to deliver a modern and hyper-local Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) plan for the public. Kaneen reorganized content, added infographics and timelines, interviewed staff, and collaborated with local photographers to distill 300+ of research into an eye-catching and readable online CEDS.

Website Explains $136.2M in ARPA Funding

Thanks to a rapid response by city staff and Mayor and Council, Tucson received $136.2M in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. The Kaneen team organized and developed new content, created icons and graphics, sourced images, fact checked, and launched the ARPA website on the OpenGov platform.

Eliminating Government Speak

How does a City “green stormwater infrastructure (GSI)” program make my life better?  Kaneen creatives teamed up with the City Manager’s office and Tucson Water’s GSI pros to answer that question with Storm to Shade/Chubasco a Sombra – a fresh name and mark focusing on the program’s core benefit. The mark features raindrops and the leaves of the ironwood tree, native to our Sonoran Desert.  The snappy icon appears on the program website, project signage, fact sheets, and e-signatures.

Connecting Voters to Prop 411

In May 2022, more than 70% of Tucson voters approved Proposition 411 that extended a half-cent sales tax for streets and safety improvements! We’d like to think we helped with a strategic voter education campaign. Kaneen simplified, designed, and produced voter education materials, including an info card, fact sheet, digital banner, and more.
